In
Oriental Medicine each person is looked at as an ecosystem
within an ecosystem. It is in the balance of forces
within us that our internal climate is determined-our
health or disease. Traditional Oriental doctors are
trained to cultivate this balance of wellness and to
remedy ill-health.
How
does it Work?
According to biochemical and neurological research,
acupuncture works by activating a natural pain-suppression
system in the brain. Acupuncture has the systemic effect
of increasing endorphins which leads to pain relief,
enhanced energy and vitality as well as strengthening
the body's immune system so that it has the ability
to fight disease.
What
Happens During a Treatment?
Very fine sterile and disposable needles are inserted
into points along the energy channels in the body to
stimulate the flow of energy. A usual course of treatment
is between five to ten sessions depending on the individual
case. A treatment may also include herbal prescriptions,
electro-stimulation, Tui-na massage and life-style recommendations.
What
is Oriental Herbal Medicine?
Oriental Herbal Medicine employs carefully designed
formulas composed of many different herbal combinations
and then customizes them based on the specific needs
of the patient. Whereas Western Medicine treats a disorder,
Oriental Herbal Medicine treats the imbalances that
lead to the disorder and thus resolves it in a more
holistic fashion.
Is
Acupuncture Covered by Medical Insurance?
Many insurance companies cover acupuncture treatments.
An acupuncturist (State Board Licensed) is considered
a primary care provider. Injured workers may receive
acupuncture treatments through their Workers Comp Insurance.
