ORIENTAL HERBAL MEDICINE
THERAPIES

In our clinic we often prescribe herbal supplements to augment the beneficial effects of the acupuncture treatments.

Oriental herbal medicine has a very long history.  Before acupuncture needles were used, humans used plants, minerals and other natural substances to fight off disease and stay healthy.  This practice was not limited to the Orient. In Europe, Egypt and the Americas, herbal medicine was used extensively.

The herbs we dispense in our clinic carry the GMT seal, which means that they adhere to Good Manufacturing Techniques. Prior to shipping to the USA most herbal formulas are tested many times for purity, potency, and lack of pesticides.  Oriental herbal formulas have few side effects, because they utilize all components of the substance – plant or mineral – not merely the “active” ingredient.

Oriental herbal formulas recognize the wisdom in nature, incorporating this into the formulas.  For example, if a certain ingredient dries phlegm, another ingredient will balance this out, moistening the lungs to prevent over drying.  If one ingredient subdues the kind of energy that has gone to the head and is causing headaches or high blood pressure, another ingredient in the same formula will mildly tonify and nourish, preventing fatigue or over-sedation.

In our 20 years of experience we have found that herbs and acupuncture are perfect partners. The herbal formulas will assist you in achieving faster results, sustaining the healing effects, and preventing symptoms from recurring.

Herbal medicine is dispensed according to your weight. The usual dosage is three to four capsules taken three or four times a day. Herbs work best if taken without food, mixed onto warm water.

Some formulas may interact with Western medication, including anticoagulants.  If you take any Western medicine, or have any questions about herbal formulas, please be sure to discuss this with your practitioner.

Most insurance companies do not pay for herbal medicine; however, some MSAs will accept our receipts and reimburse you for the cost. Please check with your specific company.
