The Story behind Acumen Health Clinics
Upon returning from China in March 1989, I decided to
open my own practice in Hollywood and rented office
space from a DC. That office was known for the first
next 11 years as “Migdali Acupuncture Center, your Haven
in Hollywood”.
In 1990 I met an Israeli man, Moshe Barkan that was
studying acupuncture. We immediately liked each and he
begun apprenticing in the Hollywood office. As Moshe
graduated with top honors and decided to join the
office, we needed to come up with a new name. The name
we chose was Acumen Health Centers.
The dictionary defines acumen as: Keenness and depth of
perception, discernment, or discrimination esp. in
practical matters. We both felt that the name
represented how we wanted to practice and evoked
positive feelings from all that heard it.
With Moshe’s wonderful business energy the practice has
grown, we purchased the Simi Valley office in September
2000, and begun a brand new acupuncture/ Chiropractic
office in Beverly Hills. Our family of practitioners has
grown 6 and our patient load kept increasing.
After 5 years of operating a multi offices business, I
decided that I wanted to simplify my life. We made
arrangement to sell the Beverly Hills office to Eun
Chung and her husband Peter and Moshe stayed to practice
in the Hollywood office. In April 2005 I begun operating
on my own in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks under our new
name Acumen Health Clinics.
